Chemistry is an exciting field in which chemists can look beneath the surface of nature to understand why things behave as they do. Because of the chemist's understanding of the way atoms and molecules interact, we are able to develop new materials to meet society's needs, to design new medicinal drugs for treatment of illness, to analyze the environment for harmful materials and develop ways of removing them, and to synthesize new materials. Chemistry is the central science; it impacts biology and medicine, and draws from physics, mathematics and computer science to help give us better insight into our world. |
