Noby Bromine is a miniature character study I
composed while taking a break from
composing my opera. The program note
is as follows:
Noby Bromine is a lovable
old chap, the kind you might see bumbling his way out of the tavern
early some
Saturday morning. But this particular
Saturday is different. As he stumbles along the street, Noby’s thoughts
turn to
his long-suffering wife, who stays up every evening worrying about his
safe
return. A pang of guilt emerges
from his foggy mind. As his head clears, he swears off the bottle –
never
again! – picks up his pace, and hurries home. His conscience clear,
Noby
retires into his wife’s loving arms – until next Saturday?
“noby
bromine” was the
subject line of a spam email I received in 2006. I am still
waiting for that Ugandan prince
to deposit $10,000,000 in my bank account….
