Dereck Plante • Assistant Professor • Physics and Engineering
M.S., University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth
B.S. Electrical Engineering, Eastern Nazarene College
Professor Plante graduated from ENC in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics and earned a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 2003. He has worked in industry for ten years at such companies as Lucent Technologies and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He began teaching at ENC in 2005. His interests are in embedded systems, power systems design, and renewable energies. While continuing to collaborate at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Prof. Plante hopes to bring oceanography engineering and research into the classroom to bridge the gap between academics and industry.
His desire is to see all engineering students get excited about learning and succeed while at ENC. He enjoys bringing students into Boston for lectures at Harvard, robotics competitions at MIT, and to hang out at the science museum. He also enjoys supporting students in their campus activities such as soccer, basketball, music, and drama. Occasionally, he may also be seen assisting in harmless acts of mischief to stir up a little excitement on campus.
