Lambert W. Brandes • Professor • Music • Music Department Chair

Prof. BrandesProfessor Brandes has been teaching at ENC since 1964. His areas of expertise are in music theory, organ, and acoustics of music. A member of the American Guild of Organists, he gives frequent recital and concert performances, the most notable of which include performances in Austria with the U.S. Government-appointed Tour Chorus, performances at Disney World, and a performance of personal compositions before an audience of 15,000 at the Charlotte Coliseum. Professor Brandes is also in charge of facilitating students of music with employment in positions such as church organist, choir master, accompanist, or private instructor. He is currently the organist for Wollaston Church of the Nazarene and Christ Lutheran Church in Scituate, Mass. He lives with his wife in Marshfield, Mass.

Prof. MillicanDr. Millican has been on the ENC faculty since 1979, while also lecturing and teaching at Harvard University, Wellesley College, and Fuller Theological Seminary. He instructs piano majors and teaches music courses and “Arts & Music,” a core class. He teaches a travel section of “Arts & Music” in Rome every May. He has an extensive record of piano performances, including one at the White House for Rosalyn Carter; the Dallas and Houston Symphony Orchestras; National Public Radio; ten European tours in England, Germany, Holland, Iceland, Italy, and Spain; and recordings on the Vox and Keywind labels. He received an ENC professional achievement award in 2005. He lives with his wife in Quincy.

Timothy J. Shetler • Associate Professor • Music

Prof. ShetlerDr. Shetler has been teaching at ENC since 1988. In addition to classroom responsibilities, he conducts the ENC A Cappella Choir and the Chamber Singers. Tour locations for the ENC Chamber Singers have included Austria, the Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Romania, Scotland, Switzerland, and Wales. During his time at ENC, as both student and professor, Dr. Shetler has taken part in more than 1350 concerts and appearances. He has also served as board member of the Choral Arts of New England. Through the American Choral Directors Association, he has traveled as guest conductor for honor choruses in several districts, including the Massachusetts Southeastern and Northeastern Districts.

Delvyn Case • Associate Professor • Music

Prof. CaseComposer/Conductor Delvyn Case joined the ENC faculty in 2004. He received a Teaching Excellence Award after only one year at ENC, and later also received a Professional Achievement Award for his 2008 opera “The Prioress’s Tale.  He is the founder of the college’s composition program, which brings in professional ensembles each semester to perform and/or record student works. He is also the founder of ENC’s Musica Eclectica Concert Series, which presents over 15 free or low-cost concerts on the college’s campus each year featuring musical styles as diverse as hip-hop, bluegrass, and modern classical.  Dr. Case created the college’s first courses in songwriting, the history of popular music, and advanced form & analysis, plus new versions of twentieth-century music and orchestration.  He currently conducts the ENC Choral Union, a 70-member college-community choir that presents major masterworks each semester with orchestra. He is the former director of the 80-member ENC Gospel Choir, which under his leadership performed at professional events before thousands at the Bank of America Pavilion and the Hynes Convention Center.

Dr. Case has received honors and fellowships from BMI, The MacDowell Colony, The Composers Conference at Wellesley, The Chicago Ensemble, The New York Virtuoso Singers, the Atlantic Center for the Arts, and The Society of Composers, Inc, among others. He also  maintains an active career as a scholar, with interests in the pedagogical uses of popular music and the relationship between music and religion. He has co-authored several articles for the interdisciplinary journal Books & Culture, and has presented papers at The College Music Society national conference and at Texas A&M University as a fellow of the Glasscock Center for Humanities Research. He has also spoken at events sponsored by Andover-Newton Theological Seminary, The Association of Independent Schools-New England, and Philadelphia Biblical University.
