Professional License
Professional License builds upon the initial license. The Master of Education programs fulfill the requirements for professional license as well as an appropriate Master of Education degree for the state of Massachusetts. Each graduate must fulfill the following requirements:
1. Hold an initial license.
2. Complete the appropriate Master of Education courses.
3. Complete the courses in the appropriate licensure area.
Master of Education and Professional License
The Master of Education programs fulfill part of the requirements for both a Master of Education and Professional License in the state of Massachusetts. To receive both a Master's degree and Professional License, the student must have an undergraduate degree and at least an Initial License in an appropriate area. If the student does not have any Initial License, the student must complete the Initial License requirements before completing the Professional license and appropriate Master of Education degree requirements. All teacher licensure programs are dependent upon state approval and are subject to change by state mandate. All teacher education graduate students must have completed an undergraduate program and have an earned bachelor's degree in a liberal arts/science major.

Administration Licensure
Requirements:
1. Possession of at least an initial license in another role.
2. Completion of three years of school based employment in a role in which the candidate holds a license or three years of equivalent employment in an alternative instructional setting.
3. Completion of at least 24 hours of course work directly related to Professional's "a-e" for an administrator.
4. Completion of the master's degree Administration program.
5. A grade point average of at least 3.0 (B).

Reading Specialist License
Graduate education at ENC provides an opportunity for graduate students to obtain a Reading Specialist Initial License. The program is 36 credits and when completed, a student has earned an MEd with recommendation for Initial Licensure as a Reading Specialist. Students must fulfill the appropriate course work, including a practicum, to earn the license. They must also consult with an advisor who will guide them through the program and the licensure process.
Additionally, students seeking a Reading Specialist Initial License must:
1. Hold an Initial or Professional License
2. Have at least one year of teaching under that license
3. Have taken a reading and children's literature course.
