2006 Headlines

 

 

October 4, 2006.  Quincy, MA.  Eastern Nazarene women’s tennis falls to two time CCC champion Salve Regina squad, 0-9.

Facing a team with strong abilities the Crusaders made the Seahawks work for every point on the court.  The matches most competive game from Crusaders Amy Penrose as she battled tightly with Seahawks Emily Ross (Quincy, MA) but fell in the end 6-4, 6-3. 

The Crusader women's tennis team will travel to Bristol, RI for a make up game against Roger Williams University on Friday, October 6, 2006, match time 4:00 pm.

September 30th, 2006.  Wellesley, MA.  Eastern Nazarene Women’s Tennis nets CCC win.

The Lady Crusader’s tennis team climbed back into the CCC playoff hunt with a 5-4 victory at Regis College on Saturday, Sept. 30th.

The third doubles team of Emily Dunham and Beth Klopfer earned the Crusaders their first point of the afternoon with an 8-6 win. ENC then swept third through sixth singles to close out the match. Sarah Oliver started the sweep with a 6-0, 6-3 win at third singles. Allison Nowland won at fourth singles 6-4, 6-2. Emily Metcalfe finished off her opponent in three sets 6-2, 3-6 and 6-1.

That left Beth Klopfer to win the match at fifth singles. With both teams, and all of the spectators, watching their every move, Beth battled back from a 3-0 deficit in the third set to settle the match 6-1, 1-6 and 6-4.  

The Crusaders face Salve Regina at home on Wednesday, Oct. 4th. Then host Curry College on Saturday, Oct. 7th in a match that will definitely have playoff implications.

 

 

Sept. 28, 2006.  Quincy, MA.  Crusaders offering their best, but fall 7-2.

The ENC women's tennis team fell to Becker College in a non-conference match on Thursday, Sept. 28. The Crusaders were led by Allison Cammarata at first singles as she fought back to win in two tiebreakers, 1-6, 7-6(7-4), 1-0(10-7). Amy Casey cruised at second singles, 6-1, 6-1, to push her record to 5-4 on the season.

Beth Klopfer, normally the #5 hitter for the Crusaders, played as the #3 hitter today and did very well though dropping her match 6-3, 6-2. 

In doubles competition Crusaders Camarata and Casey narrowly missed winning  at #1, 9-7, and Klopfer and Emily Dunham did the same coming just shy of winning #2 doubles, 8-6.

ENC travels to Regis on Saturday, Sept. 30th, for an important CCC match.

 

Sept. 9, 2006.  Quincy, MA.  Crusaders march down to the Women's International Tennis Hall of Fame in Providence, RI for a day of doubles.

For the third consecutive year the ENC women's tennis team competed in the Women's Grass Court Doubles Tournament at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, RI. The opportunity to play tennis on grass courts is an experience that few college tennis teams have the chance to enjoy.

Crusaders doubles teams of Allison Cammarata / Sarah Oliver(#1), Amy Casey / Allison Nowland(#2), Emily Dunham/Beth Klopfer(#3), and Emily Metcalfe/Brook Bartlett(#4) represented ENC well in a day high quality tennis competition.

The pairing of Dunham and Klopfer came the closest to winning a match as they lost in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (6).

 

 

Sept. 7, 2006.  Quincy, MA.  Crusaders out swung by the Saints, 1-8.

In a match closer than the final score, the ENC women's tennis team fell to non-conference opponent Emmanuel, 8-1.  Amy Casey pushed her record to 3-0 at #2 singles with a hard fought third set super tiebreak win, 2-6, 6-4, 10-8. Allison Nowland also battled but fell to a 5-7, 2-6 loss at #4 singles.

The Crusaders will compete in the Grass Court doubles tournament at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, RI on Saturday. The first match will be at 1 pm.

 

 

Sept. 6, 2006.  Quincy, MA.  Eastern Nazarene falls to U/Mass-Dart., 1-8.

ENC's two first year tennis players led the way again for the Crusaders in a non-conference loss to UMass Dartmouth. Amy Casey improved to 2-0 on the season at #2 singles with a 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 win. #1 singles player Allison Cammarata lost her first set in a tiebreaker 7-6(8-6) before dropping a tough second set 6-2.  The two then teamed up to extend their marathon day of tennis to fall at #1 doubles in a tiebreak, 9-8(7-3).

The other doubles teams also battled with the Corsairs as the #2 doubles team of Emily Dunham and Beth Klopfer lost the first five games of their pro set then fought back to win four of the next seven games in an 8-4 loss. Emily Metcalfe and Allison Nowland never quit in an 8-3 loss at #3 doubles.

 

 

Sept. 2, 2006.  Quincy, MA.  Eastern Nazarene swings to victory in season opener vs. Pine Manor, 7-2.

The Eastern Nazarene College women's tennis team started the 2006 fall campaign in dominating fashion as they defeated the Gators from Pine Manor College 7-2 on Sept. 2. Two first year players led the way for the Crusaders. Allison Cammarata (Marion, MA) cruised at first singles winning 6-2,6-1, while Amy Casey (Hamden, MA) finished off her opponent at second singles 6-2, 6-2. Sarah Oliver(3rd singles),

Junior Allison Nowland (Taunton, MA/4th singles), and Beth Klopfer (East Hartland, CT/5th singles) also won as ENC won all of the singles matches.

The Crusaders next play at home against Emmanuel on Sept. 7th at 3:30 pm.
