Fifth Season

Messiah College (1991)

Coach Newell is heading into his fifth season as Head Coach of the ENC Soccer Program.  While the program has not produced the results he has expected, the team continues to make progress and develop student-athletes for success.

Having taken over the reigns as Head Coach for the Eastern Nazarene Men's Soccer Program in 2004, Newell has provided a vision and environment for community, competition and commitment. Coach Newell uses the stage of sport to promote an awareness of team and leadership dynamics that relate to real life.  He encourages a positive energy and attitude for excellence on the field, in the class room and in life.  Coach Newell believes "the most rewarding accomplishments lay in our ability to identify our goals, plot their course for achieving them and spending our energies trying to do so."  Coach Newell expresses that, "One of my passions is to work with student-athlete's to do more than manage life but exceed in life's aspirations following college.  One characteristic of an ENC Men's Soccer Player will be their responsibility to having an above average experience both on and off the field."

Coach Newell was Assistant Coach under Kos Donev at Division I Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fl. from 2000-2003 before coming to ENC.  Prior to that he was Assistant Coach with Head Coach Keith Moser at Marymount University in Arlington Va. during 1996-97, 99 and with Head Coach Mark Wagner at Eastern University in St David's, Pa. during 1998.

Coach Newell attended and played all four years at Messiah College, finishing out his collegiate career as captain and with Honorable Mention Honors in the MAC.  He graduated from Messiah College in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Health and Physical Education.  He holds the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma Certificate and the USSF D "National" Coaching Certificate.

Coach Newell, son of Richard, Jr and Roberta Newell, grew up in Silver Spring, MD, played in the Potomac Soccer Club organization and graduated from Paint Branch High School in Burtonsville, Md.  Tom and his wife Karen were married in 1999 in McLean, Va.  Together they are looking forward to participating in the ENC and Quincy, Ma. communities to make a difference.
