Head Coach:  Jon Yeh

Telephone:  (617) 745-3637

Email:  Jon.Yeh@enc.edu

Jon Yeh is in his second year as head basketball coach for the Crusaders, and he has plenty of experience working with successful programs. Prior to arriving to the South Shore, Yeh spent seven years as the assistant coach at Grace College (Winona Lake, Ind.), where he helped rebuild the Lancers. During his tenure, the team averaged more than 17 wins a season over his final five years. At Grace, Yeh recruited five Indiana Top 40 Workout participants and was named Indiana Basketball News NAIA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2003.

Yeh began his coaching career at Heritage High School outside Fort Wayne, Ind. There, he spent four years in various assistant coaching positions. His success in basketball dates back to his days at Wilmot High School in Wisconsin. He was part of a team that went 27-0 to win the Division II State Championship and finished a combined 51-1 over his last two years.

In addition to his coaching duties at Eastern Nazarene, Yeh also serves as assistant athletic director. He is a member of the ENC Way Committee and the college’s Council on Community Responsibility.

Coach Yeh earned his bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from Taylor University (Fort Wayne, Ind.) in 1996. He completed his master’s degree in Physical Education from Ball State University in 2005.

Yeh is the 11th head basketball coach in Eastern Nazarene history. It is believed that he is also the first Chinese-American collegiate head men’s basketball coach in the United States.

Jon and his wife, Corrinne, have two children, Jadon and Mya. He and his family live near the ENC campus in Quincy.

Assistant Coach:  Gerry Whetstone

Telephone:  (617) 745-3637

Gerry Whetstone is in his first year as an assistant coach for the Crusaders, but he knows his way around the Eastern Nazarene campus. Whetstone was a four-year letterman for the Crusaders and finished his career with 1,008 points, placing him 27th on ENC’s all-time scoring list. He served as team captain his senior year. His Crusader teams went a combined 78-41 during his playing career, and he has remained very active in basketball, both playing and coaching, since graduation.

Though he was a prolific scorer in college, Whetstone was known more for his tenacious defense.  As a senior, he led the Crusaders in steals and ranked third in rebounding. Among his many responsibilities with the current Crusaders, Whetstone helps oversee defensive quality control and works with the team’s perimeter players.

After graduating in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in religion, Whetstone went on to serve as a youth pastor in two churches and lead pastor in four churches. He received his master’s degree in religion from ENC while pastoring in Fitchburg, Mass. He returned to Eastern Nazarene in an administrative role, spending four-and-a-half years as Director of Constituency Relations. In addition to coaching, Gerry is an adjunct professor for ENC’s Adult Education Program and Nazarene Bible College Online Program. He also runs his own ministry organization, His Servant Ministries.

Gerry and his wife, Ellen (ENC ’73), have two adult children who are both graduates of Eastern Nazarene College and two grandchildren. The couple lives in South Quincy.
