Classic marches, Big Band numbers and jazz arrangements will be among the musical selections performed by Eastern Nazarene College’s Symphonic Winds and 4 O’Clock Jazz Ensemble at a free spring concert to be held Wednesday May 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cove Fine Arts Center.
Comprised of ENC students, adults and selected area high school students, the 35-member Symphonic Winds will perform a number of selections including the marches “Coat of Arms” and “Tacotta for Band,” as well as a wide array of pieces ranging from dance to classical, including “Slavonic Dances No. 8,” “La Fiesta De La Roca,” “Beyond the Summit” and “Clarinet Escapade.” The 4 O’Clock Jazz Ensemble will then present a jazz program featuring “Big Band” instrumentation and arrangements by popular artists including Charles Mingus’s “Jelly Roll” and “Boogie Stop Shuffle,” Sammy Nestico’s “Samantha” and “Orange Sherbet,” and other popular tunes.
“We invite area residents to come and enjoy these local ensembles at this free concert,” said Stephen Bell, director of both the Symphonic Winds and 4 O’Clock Jazz ensembles. “It will be a fun and memorable evening for all ages.”
