The 2010-2011 ENC Women's Soccer Team

QUINCY, Mass.- The Eastern Nazarene women’s soccer team was recently recognized as a recipient of the 2011 NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) College Team Academic Award.

Schools selected to receive the NSCAA award posted a team grade point average of 3.0 of higher during the 2010-2011 school year. The Lion’s 23 member squad boasted an accumulative gpa of 3.2 under head coach Steve Hamilton’s guidance. The team is consistently among the top gpa earners in the ENC Athletic Department.

Q and A with Lion’s head coach Steve Hamilton:

What do you do to ensure that your teams are so successful in the classroom?

“It is really nothing special. We set goals and have study hall hours just like everyone else.  One thing that I’ve been particularly impressed with, though, is how hard they compete.  That carries over to the classroom where they’re constantly pushing themselves for more. “

How do you feel about the girls receiving this award?

"I’m very proud of them.  We’re always talking about our program being bigger than just the game of soccer.  We like to think that the way we compete in practice and in games is going to lead to success off the field as well.  This is one example of that."
