Merritt Mann (Math '59) had a 32 year career in marketing with IBM Corporation, working with government accounts in the Washington, DC/Maryland area. For the past 12 years, he has been involved in resource development with Nazarene World Mission and Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, serving mainly in Europe and Central Asia. [mhmann@aol.com]
William Webb (59, Math)
After graduation, he joined the IBM Corporation as a Systems Engineer, working in the Federal Systems Division, on NASA projects. He spent most of his 33 year career in the Washington, DC area marketing to Federal agencies such as NASA, The Weather Bureau, NOAA, and National Weather Service but had a 3 year assignment in Germany, supporting the US Military from West Berlin to Northern Italy. He was a National Account Team Leader for the Internal Revenue Service for his last ten years and traveled both nationally and internationally to present how the agency used technology in its mission. Bill and Doris, his wife, raised their family in Northern Virginia and were active members of the Washington, DC Church of the Nazarene for over 30 years. After retiring in 1992 as a senior marketing representative, Bill consulted briefly before he moved to Mount Vernon Nazarene University where he worked in Business Services for over 10 years. Bill moved to ENC in 2003 where he is now the Senior Director of Business Services. Bill and Doris (ENC's VP for Admissions and Financial Aid) have three children who are all ENC grads, Bill Jr. (88, Math and Computer Science), Kendra and Karla (both 92). They are all married to ENC graduates, Connie Monnin Webb (88), Douglas Pillsbury (89), and Jonathan Roe (91). Doris is also a Nazarene College Graduate. Bill and Doris really enjoy their families with 8 grandchildren (4 boys and 4 girls from 8 months to 10 years of age) and visit them regularly in Northern Virginia, Columbus, Ohio, and Phoenix, Arizona!
David Atkinson (Math ’64) received an MA in math at Boston University in 1967 and was an Asst. Prof. at ENC from 1967-70. He joined the faculty at Olivet Nazarene University in 1970, teaching there and commuting to the University of Illinois where he finished his Ph.D. in mathematics education in 1975. He is still at ONU and has been department chair since 1981. His wife Ann is also an ENC grad ('68, El. Ed.). They enjoy traveling and after summer of 2006will have been to every continent except Antartica.
Kurt Heckman (Math 84) is currently the President of Sycamore.US, a Defense and Aerospace Contractor with 100 employees in Maryland and Virginia. He has been married to his wife Karen (Shuck, 84) for twenty-two years with five children: Ashley, Todd, James, Emily, and Sarah. He says he is graying, balding, chubby, and happy. [kurt@sycamore.us]
Gordon A. Swain (Math, Physics 85) went on to get his MS in Math from the University of Vermont in 1987, and a PhD in Math from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1993. While on leave from graduate school, he came back and taught at ENC for the 89-90 school year. After a year at the University of Minnesota Duluth, he started teaching at Ashland University (Ashland, Ohio) in 1994, where he has taught ever since. He has been Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science since 2000, and will enter the Professor rank starting Fall 2005. [ gswain@ashland.edu]
Sharon (Potter) Aaserud (Math 87) worked at a bank as an Investment Assistant for six years while her husband David Aaserud (Chemistry 87) earned his Ph.D. For the past eight years she has been a full time homemaker and mother (of two girls), is currently the Bookkeeper/Treasurer for a small Nazarene Preschool and Academy and also an Administrative Assistant for a small importing company. She is involved in the Nazarene church with the praise band (at the keyboard), and helps her husband with his positions in the church. [sadaaaea@hotmail.com]
Kenny Wantz (Math 90), also with minors in engineering and physics, went on to get his PhD in Mathematics at the University of Delaware, specializing in Finite Projective Geometry. Since getting his PhD he spend four years as the Assistant Professor of Mathematics at West Virginia State College, and has since been an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Southern Nazarene University. Amy (Eck) Smith (Math 95) is currently a Secondary Mathematics Resource Teacher for Anne Arundel County Schools in Maryland. She is in her eleventh year of teaching and is currently finishing her masters in Educational Leadership and Administration. She has been married to her husband Robert for ten years and has a daughter Cailey who is 6 years old. [eck73@juno.com]
