The Eastern Nazarene College Learning Commons is a multifaceted workspace where the ENC community can find information resources through the library, receive technical support from ITS and complete their assignments with the help the Center for Academic Success.
Phase 1 of the ENC Learning Commons, completed in 2011, focused on improved services for the ENC Community, as the three departments - Library, ITS, and CAS- worked to fit their public service offerings in one space. This was most noticeable in two ways: the creation of the iDesk on the first floor and the staffing of the Computer Lab with CAS Learning Assistants in the evenings.
Phase 2, completed in 2012, saw the full move of the Center of Academic Success to the Ground Floor of the library and the creation of a shared classroom for library and tutor instruction.
iDesk Menu of Services:
- Check in/check out traditional library items
- Reserve/pick up equipment for classroom technology
- Receive basic IT support from an iDesk worker
- Receive proper direction for more in-depth issues
Computer Lab Staffing:
Learning Assistants will staff the computer lab Sunday through Thursday evenings from 6:00pm-11:00pm. They are available to help with editing papers, brainstorming for projects, tutoring and basic research needs.
The physical changes include the installation of 8 new iMacs on the first floor and the improvement of group study room space, also on the first floor, and the move of the ITS Help Desk to the first floor of the library, staffed from 8am-8pm. In order to make room for these changes, the reference collection of the library has been moved to the corresponding call number locations on the ground, second and third floors.
