To
keep the ENC email servers running smoothly
and to conserve on our disk space, there are
limits -- called quotas -- on the total size
of each person's email account. Each email account
is allocated 10 MB of disk space. The sum total
of space occupied by the messages is what matters,
not the number of emails in your Inbox. Thus,
a small number of emails with very large attachments
could cause your disk quota to max out quickly.
You must delete messages and purge your mailbox
or empty your trash depending on your settings
to free up space. It is your responsibility
to keep your account clean, that is, remove
messages in a timely fashion so that your mailbox
does not fill up.
How do I know that I
am over quota?
This will
depend on the client you use to access WebMail.
In some cases, an email will be sent to you
alerting you that you have exceeded your quota.

If you are not proactive in maintaining your
account and you exceed your disk quota you will
run the risk of not receiving any email.
What
about attachments?
As alluded to above, you can
send and receive attachments. Of course, you
must have the corresponding applications installed
on the computer you are using in order to open
and manipulate the attached files.
Is there a maximum size
for attachments?
Yes. You
will not be able to receive an attachment that
exceeds your disk quota or will cause you to
exceed your disk quota. When you delete messages
to free up disk space choose those messages
with large attachments. If you need to keep
the attachment, save it to your local hard drive,
and then delete the email.
What if I need to
keep the attachments. Do I have any other option?
Yes. If you need the attachments,
you can always save it to your local hard drive.
Delete the attachment(s) from your webmail account
and empty the trash. This is the best way you
can save your attachments and at the same time
free up space on your webmail account.
I am using thunderbird and
I deleted my messages and emptied my trash,
but I am still over quota. What's happening?
If you are using Thunderbird
as your email application you will need to take
an additional step. After you delete your messages
and empty the trash, you will need to compact
your folders as well. Right click on the folder(s)
and select "compact folder." We encourage
that you compact all your folders after you
delete the messages.
