What telephone service does ENC have in the dorm rooms?

We have a “port per pillow” model, that is, a telephone port or jack (as well as a data jack) per student. Every telephone jack is provided with a College-owned telephone and cable, which allows students to make calls to other campus extensions. Additionally, each student is issued an Authorization Code by our communications provider, Netwolves ECCI. The Authorization Code enables students to place calls to numbers outside of the campus community, and enables the College to collect billing data.

How do I get my phone?

A phone should already be present in your room upon arrival. If it is missing, talk to your RA or stop by the ITS Office and see the HelpDesk Assistant. The ENC phone is College property and is marked with identifying numbers. You are responsible for your assigned phone. If you change rooms, be sure to have your RA complete a “Change in Room” form so you will no longer be held responsible for the phone in your previous room.

How do I get my Authorization Code?

All new students will be able to pick up their Authorization Code and information at the Welcome Center on move-in day. All returning on-campus students will keep the same Authorization Code that they used last year. If you do not receive your Authorization Code or forget it, you can contact Netwolves ECCI’s customer service department by phone at 1-888-937-3224, or go to www.NetWolves.com/Education to sign up on-line.

What is this Authorization Code all about?

It is your personal security code. In order to place an off-campus call, you need to enter this 8-digit number. It is extremely important to keep this code to yourself. Do NOT "lend" it out! Keep it secure! You are responsible for all charges incurred using your assigned Authorization Code. This code allows you to place a call from any student-accessible campus phone.

Do I have to get phone service?

Yes. ENC policy is that local service/voicemail is required.

So, what phone company do we deal with?

ENC, essentially! ENC has a system that allows us to manage the telecommunication services that we offer. The College works with its industry partners, Atlantic Telephone, Inc., and Netwolves ECCI to provide these services.

What is Netwolves ECCI?
Netwolves ECCI is a communications firm chosen by the College to handle the student billing and administer the long distance service. Your monthly telephone bills come from Netwolves ECCI via campus mail, and your payments go to them. You can also access your account online. Simply go to http://www.NetWolves.com/Education, follow the links to access your account, and enter your account number (your ENC ID #) and your Authorization Code. Call the toll-free Netwolves ECCI customer service number (1-888-937-3224) for billing questions or visit the website at http://www.NetWolves.com/Education

Is there a charge for phone service?
Students are required to have Basic Service. Basic Service includes a phone, dial tone, private voicemail, four-digit extension calling to all campus phones, phone calls in the local service area and repair services. You are charged $60 at the beginning of each semester through the Student Accounts Department at ENC. Please note that missing or damaged equipment may result in a charge of up to $100 to the person to whom the phone has been assigned.

What about the long distance rates? How do they compare?
Long distance service is provided by Sprint. The rates offered by ENC are competitive with industry standards – 7 cents per minute (cpm) flat rate. There are no surcharges or call-connection fees.

Can I use my own calling card to another long distance carrier?
Yes, you can, BUT you may incur higher rates as well as connection fees or surcharges. You will be able to dial toll free numbers from your phone to reach any other long distance service. The ENC-provided connection to Sprint is a good option.

Why does each student get a phone? Why can’t my roommate and I just share a phone?
Every student is required to have his/her own phone. In the past we have had numerous problems with differences of opinions between roommates over the phone bill. Issuing a phone per student solves this. Also, personal voicemail with a message-waiting light only works if there is a personal ENC phone.

Can I still use my own phone?
Yes, you can. You still receive a College-issued phone, but our responsibility for service is limited to the wall jack (dial tone) and the College phone. In other words, if you have dial tone at the jack, then the problem must be in your phone. Also, with your own phone you may not be able to see if you have voicemail (no message waiting light). You can plug your own phone in the back of the College issued one, however. Students have used cordless phones in this manner.

What about my own answering machine?
Your machine would have to be attached to your own phone or hung off of the College-issued phone. There may be undesired interactions...whose voicemail will pick up first? Also, the College-supplied voicemail is secure.

How do I make a call?
To make an internal (on-campus) call, dial the extension. (Extensions are the last four digits of the telephone number.) To make a local or long distance call, dial “75” and then your Authorization Code When you hear the dial tone, dial “9” and listen for another dial tone. Then, dial “1” followed by the area code and number. (Area code must be used for local calls as well.)

What is the difference between the ringing sequences on my phone?
There are two types of ringing sequences. Outside calls will ring twice. Internal calls will have a single ring.

What is my phone number?
The prefix for your complete phone number is “745” on the “A” side of the room and “769” on the “B” side. Your extension is your room number preceded by a “3” for the “A” side, and a “2” for the “B” side. In triple rooms, the “C” phone extension begins with a “5” with a prefix of “984” For example:
Room 204 A-side 745-3204
B-side 769-2204
C-side 984-5204
This does not apply to the Young suites. The prefix for Young is “984”, but the extensions do not coincide with the room numbers. You will receive your extension number with your room assignments.

Is there a directory listing of students, faculty and staff?
To call a student whose extension is unknown:
1. Dial “7900”.
2. At any time during/following the recording, dial “9”.
3. Enter up to 6 letters of the person’s last name.
4. The system will list names for your selection.
To call a faculty or staff member whose extension is unknown:
1. Dial “3900:.
2. When voice mail answers, follow the prompts.
