Clayton
Dr. Philip
Clayton is currently developing a constructive Christian theology that integrates
modern philosophy, metaphysics, and science. He holds a Ph.D. in both Religion
and Philosophy of Science from Yale University, and has published several
books, including The Problem of God in Modern Thought, God and
Contemporary Science, and Explanation from Physics to Theology:
An Essay in Rationality and Religion. Clayton won the Templeton
Award for outstanding book in Science and Religion in 1997 and 2004, and
currently serves as Ingraham Chair at the Claremont School of Theology
as well as Professor of Philosophy at the Claremont Graduate University.
His current research interest lies in exploring the philosophical and religious
implications of the emergence theory, which he expands on in such publications
as Mind and Emergence: From Quantum to Consciousness and In Quest
of Freedom: The Emergence of the Spirit in the Natural World. Clayton
will be speaking in the Open Theology Seminar on cosmological theories
and their impact on the God-World relationship.
