Jeffrey Koperski

Jeffrey Koperski has been in the department of philosophy at Saginaw Valley State University since 1997.  He received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Dayton (1987) and his Ph.D. in philosophy from Ohio State University (1997) with a dissertation on chaos theory.

At Ohio State, he worked most closely with Robert Batterman, his adviser, and Mark Wilson.  He has followed their lead in taking the philosophy of physics to include far more than issues in relativity and quantum mechanics.  His interest in the philosophy of religion can be traced to two sources:  J.P. Moreland, who first sparked his interest in
philosophy, and John Polkinghorne, who showed him the many intersections between science and theology.

Each of Koperski's first publications had something to do with chaos theory.  Since then he has meandered through topics such as divine action, models and model confirmation, cosmological fine-tuning, and the intelligent design debate.  His current research is focused on ontological emergence.
