Biographical Notes

  • Dr. Daniell has been active in the field of aeronomy, the study of the upper atmosphere of the earth (and other planets) for four decades. While a Research Associate (sponsored by the National Research Council of the National Academy of Science) at the NASA Goddard Spaceflight Center he supported the Pioneer Venus mission and published papers on the interaction of the solar wind with the ionosphere of Venus. From there he worked at Beers Associates, Inc. on projects funded by the U. S. Air Force on remote sensing of the ionosphere and upper atmosphere of the earth from space. He continued this line of research while employed by Computational Physics, Inc. (CPI) as well as developing and improving models of the terrestrial ionosphere. He published numerous peer-reviewed papers on his research. He opened the Boston office of CPI in 1985 and served as its director until his retirement in 2006. Since his retirement, he has divided his time between consulting for a NASA funded project to observe the ionosphere and upper atmosphere from a geostationary satellite and teaching physics to art students at the New England Institute of Art.
