Julie C. Best's teaching and research interests are located at the nexus of practical theology, church history and spirituality particularly looking at how these overlapping fields impact the mission of the church. She is currently working on her Ph.D. in Practical Theology with a minor in Church History from Fuller Theological Seminary.

Julie's ministry experience includes missionary service, bi-vocational pastoral ministry and chaplaincy to graduate students.  A California native, Julie was ordained on her home district in Los Angeles in May of 2004 and has served there as a bi-vocational pastor at the Azusa Church of the Nazarene, and as Associate Pastor of Spiritual Formation at Pasadena First Church of the Nazarene. She has also served as a member of Los Angeles Board of Ministry overseeing ministerial candidates preparing for ordination. As a chaplain, she ministered at both the Graduate Schools of Education at Azusa Pacific and Point Loma Nazarene Universities. Professor Best's career as an educator includes both domestic and foreign experience. She has taught English in both college preparatory and in intensive language programs at Azusa Pacific University and at UCLA Extension. Her overseas work led her to Hungary where she taught English and networked for Nazarene World Missions and also to Busingen, Germany where she taught at European Nazarene Bible College.
