Keeping and Serving God's Creation ... Genesis 2:15

Nearby Field Study Areas

Given our location in the Boston area, we have access to so many natural, cultural, and historical resources.  Within just a few minutes walk from the school is Wollaston Beach/Quincy Bay, the Black's Creek estuary and associated marshes, and Sailor's Pond.  Just a little farther down the road are Furnace Brook, the Adams historical sites, and the salt marsh restoration projects on Hough's Neck.

In nearby Quincy and Milton, we have access to the Blue Hills Reservation, a conservation area under the control of the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.  The Blue Hills contains miles of hiking trails, as well as vernal pools, streams, Ponkapoag Bog, and Houghton's Pond.

Of course, we are located only about 1-2 hours from most of the beaches on Cape Cod.  Within 2-3 hours are the White Mountains of New Hampshire, including the fabulous hiking around Franconia Notch and of course Mt. Washington.  A little farther up the coast are Mt. Katahdin and Acadia National Park in Maine.

We are also just a subway ride away from the historical and scientific research centers in the heart of downtown Boston.  We make use of the science libraries at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Boston University on a regular basis.  We also have access to tour the Metropolitan District Commission's Deer Island Treatment Facility, one of the largest and most innovative wastewater treatment facilities in the United States.

New areas are being opened to us for study in Massachusetts and nearby Rhode Island through partnerships with local environmental and conservation organizations.  For example, we have established relationships with the Stony Brook Audubon Sanctuary in Norfolk, the Fore River Watershed Association (South Shore), and the Smithfield, RI Land Trust.  We also have access to an organic farming operation in Westborough, Massachusetts.
