Twining Speaks At Vermont Law School On Friday morning, April 7, 2006, Professor Jonathan Twining of the ENC Biology Department was a panelist for "Faith Healing: Bringing Religious Communities to the Repair of the World" at Vermont Law School's 3rd Annual Solutions Conference. Also on the panel were Rabbi Shmuel Simenowitz of Project Ya'aleh V'Yavo, and Sister Annabelle of the Green Mountain Dharma Center. The moderator for the panel was Dr. Reed Loder, an environmental ethics professor at Vermont Law School. Mr. Twining was asked to speak about ways that we can engage Christians in finding solutions to environmental concerns. He spoke about his work in West Virginia, Romania, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka with Christians that want to demonstrate that they care about the environment in their schools and communities. Engaging Christians in the debate requires empowering youth as change agents in their communities and educating church leaders about the biblical and practical reasons that Christians should be involved with environmental stewardship. The organizers of the panel were very pleased with the outcome of the panel, and noted how for this one moment, leaders of three distinct religions could find a thread of commonality in caring for our Earth, the place we call home.
