Jonathan Twining joined the Department of Biology faculty full time in the fall of 2005.  Mr. Twining also taught part-time at ENC from 1997-2001, when he started the Environmental Science Program.  Mr. Twining has also taught in the public school system at Remington Middle School in Franklin, MA (2001-2005).

Before becoming an educator, Mr. Twining had over 15 years of experience as an environmental consultant, working as a Senior Environmental Scientist and project manager for several companies in Rhode Island.  He was formerly a Licensed Site Professional (LSP) in Massachusetts, authorized to make decisions about the assessment and remediation of petroleum and hazardous materials releases. 

Mr. Twining is also the president of Marah International, a Christian non-profit environmental organization.  Through this organization, he is the director of the Creation Care Camp, a cross-cultural environmental and peacebuilding summer camp sponsored by Ezekiel's Place Retreat Center in Hedgesville, WV.  Mr. Twining is a member of the committee that recently wrote the Creation Care Guidelines for the Church of the Nazarene.  He is also a trustee for the Town of Smithfield, RI municipal land trust, where he is involved with the ongoing stewardship of several conservation properties.

Mr. Twining has received numerous awards for environmental education, including the EPA Region 1 Environmental Merit Award (2000), Ward 5 Association "High Five" Award, and the Massachusetts Software Council's "Above and Beyond Award."  In October 2005, Mr. Twining received the Formal Environmental Educator Award from the New England Environmental Education Alliance. 

Mr. Twining holds a B.S. in Biology from Eastern Nazarene College (1984), a Master's Degree in Oceanography from Old Dominion University (1986) and a Master's Degree in Education from Eastern Nazarene College (2005).  His current research, consulting, and educational interests include:

*  Vernal pool and stream ecology
*  Land and biodiversity conservation
*  Conservation of medicinal plants in Sri Lanka
*  Sustainable community development
*  Environmental education in the US, Romania, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh
