Nazarene Youth Congress - Caring For God's Earth Track

What Should I Bring To NYC For This Particular Track?

First of all, we will be working outside a great deal of the time.  Therefore, come prepared for various weather conditions.  It is likely to be very hot in St. Louis in July.  Therefore, bring lots of sunscreen and at least 2 liters of water each day, plus sunglasses and a hat or other covering for your head.  You may want to bring some insect repellent.  Also, be prepared in case we get an afternoon shower, so if you have a rain jacket, pack it!

You may want to bring a camera so you can take pictures to show others what you were doing.

I would ask that you bring a simple composition notebook that you can use as a journal to write down ideas that you get from the track, and also as a space for you to write reflections as they are given to you as an exercise.  Of course, bring several writing instruments with you.

If you are allergic to bee stings or insect bites, please bring your epi-pen, and make sure that you inform the track leader and other assisting adults of this concern.

On Friday, when we are working on our service project in the park, you will need to wear long pants.  I know this is difficult when it is hot, but you will need to protect yourself from poison ivy, as well as cuts and scrapes that may occur when working in forested areas.

Needless to say, you will probably want to bring a backpack that includes all of these items, although this is not a necessity for the track.

Finally, wear shoes that are comfortable for you to walk in, but that you don't mind getting dirty.  There will be some occasions where we will need to walk for a period of time.
