As a student, if you are serious about working with animals in some capacity for your career, you can apply to volunteer with the Animal Caretakers Team (ACT) in the ENC Biology Department. ACT members care for our collection of educational animals on a daily basis. ![]() As a member of the team, you will learn proper husbandry as you feed and water the animals, monitor environmental conditions in the enclosures, clean the enclosures, and handle the animals on a regular basis. Careful records are kept of each animal's history. If you are interested in joining the team, you will first need to fill out this application (PDF file) and submit it to Professor Twining. You will then undergo a period of training before being placed on the volunteer schedule. As an ACT volunteer, you also get to learn how to work together with animals to educate others. We go out to schools, churches, and other groups to teach them about caring for our environment, including the animals and other creatures we share this planet with. Let us know if you are interested in this aspect of the Animal Caretakers Team. |
