Robert Gailey (92) has been married to Wanda (Basham) Gailey (‘93) for almost 20 years and together they have a son, Joshua, and a daughter, Teresa. Currently Rob directs the Center for International Development (CID) and serves as associate professor of business at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) in San Diego, CA where he has been for the past seven years. Previously, Rob and Wanda served as Nazarene missionaries in Malawi from 1995 to 1996. In 1997, Rob was hired as the research director for the global Microcredit Summit Campaign and also served as an associate pastor for National Church of the Nazarene (now Mosaic) in Washington, DC. In 1999, Rob was ordained as an elder in the Nazarene Church on the Mid-Atlantic District.
From 1999-2005, Rob directed the Microfinance Consulting Services for World Relief. In his position, he traveled to a number of poor countries to work with churches and Christian organizations doing economic development and poverty alleviation work. Rob’s role was to train and consult with organizations trying to use business and finance to nurture and support entrepreneurial ventures of people, mostly women, who live in poverty.
Rob holds a BA in business administration from Eastern Nazarene College (‘92), a Master of Divinity degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary (‘97), and a PhD in Leadership studies with a concentration in nonprofit management from the University of San Diego (2010). In addition to his role as director of the Center for International Development, Rob teaches nonprofit organizational management and theories of economic development in the International Development Studies major at PLNU and nonprofit organizational management in the MBA program. He serves as advisor to the student microfinance club and helps lead the San Diego Microfinance Alliance. He also serves on the boards of Lazarian World Homes and Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, Inc.
