James Reese Cameron (51)has been a professor at Eastern Nazarene College for more than sixty years. He graduated from ENC in 1951 with a history degree, and he was also the president of his class. He is the author of two volumes on the history of Eastern Nazarene College. The Cameron Center on the Old Colony Campus is named in his honor. Beginning in 1983, he organized class reunions for the five-year classes for more than a decade. Students have honored him on two occasions with the dedication of the Nautilus. In 1986 the Alumni Association named him Alumnus of the Year.
He is a lifelong member of the Wollaston Church of the Nazarene where he has served as church treasurer, board member, Sunday School teacher and delegate to both district and general assemblies of the Church of the Nazarene. He also was the former president of the South Shore Council of Churches, chairman of the South Shore Men’s Prayer Breakfast Committee, and for more than thirty years was the delegate to the Interchurch Council for Wollaston and North Quincy. Dr. Cameron wrote lesson plans and feature articles for the Adult Studies Curriculum of the Church of the Nazarene.
Dr. Cameron holds graduate degrees from Boston University. He is the author of ten books and numerous articles. For forty years he was active in the Quincy Historical Society as historian and president. He has held faculty positions at Northwest Nazarene College, Point Loma Nazarene College, and Boston University.
He has been married for 62 years to Ruth (Allen) Cameron, class of 1950. Together they have two children, James and Laura, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
