David Aaserud (87) is a senior research chemist at The Lubrizol Corporation, in Wickliffe OH, where he has worked the last 14 years in research and development. The Lubrizol Corporation, a Berkshire Hathaway company, is a specialty chemical company that produces and supplies technologies to customers in the global transportation, industrial and consumer markets. At Lubrizol, David works in the Applied Sciences Department as an analytical chemist, helping develop new products and solving a variety of product and customer related issues.
After receiving his BS in chemistry from ENC, David attended graduate school at The Pennsylvania State University, where he earned his Ph.D. in chemistry in 1994. He then did postdoctoral research as a postdoctoral associate at Cornell University and as a visiting scientist at DuPont. David has served as chair of the Northeast Ohio local section of the American Chemical Society and is an expert in mass spectrometry, an analytical technique used to identify molecules and characterize materials. He has coauthored 25 peer-reviewed scientific publications and one US patent.
David lives in Painesville, Ohio with his wife Shari (Potter, ‘87) and their two daughters, Aimee and Emily. He and his family are members of the Painesville Church of the Nazarene where he currently serves as secretary of the church board, teaches a Sunday school class, and plays bass guitar for the praise band. During his graduate and postdoctoral work, David and his family attended Nazarene churches in State College, PA, Ithaca, NY and West Chester, PA - where he also served in a variety of ways, including as a church board member, Sunday school teacher, and in youth and music ministries.
