HI341 Holocaust

History    credits: 3

An intensive survey of the history of the Holocaust, beginning with the growth of anti-Semitism in Europe at the end of the nineteenth century and ending with the legacy of the Holocaust today. Individual topics will include Jewish life in Europe before the Holocaust, the Nazi rise to power, implementation of the Final Solution, the response of collaborators and rescuers, the role of the Church, questions of responsibility, and the problems of survivor memory. This course does not fulfill an intercultural literacy requirement. Offered varying years.
