Biology Professor Jon Twining speaks about vernal pools

On March 13, Biology professor Jon Twining offered training for the Friends of Myles Standish State Forest in vernal pool certification. The two-hour program focused on characteristics, values and vulnerabilities of vernal pools, biological and physical documentation for certification and the benefits and aspects of starting a vernal pool monitoring program.

Social Work professor Dr. Jacqueline Dyer, presented her quantitative research project on clergy and domestic violence issues in congregations at the Social Work Month celebration in Munro Parlor on Monday, March 21. The first piece of Dr. Dyer’s ongoing study, Challenging Assumptions: Clergy Perspectives and Practices Regarding Intimate Partner Violence, was published last February in the Journal of Religion & Spirituality in Social Work: Social Thought, focusing on intimate partner violence in African-American communities and providing insight into clergy practices and views in addressing these issues.

Dr. Karl Giberson of the Physics Department held a book signing of his latest publication with Francis Collins, The Language of Science and Faith: Straight Answers to Genuine Questions in the Mann Student Center Auditorium on Friday, March 18.

Dr. Randall Stephens of the History Department sat down with Robert Darnton, award-winning Harvard historian and director of the Harvard Libraries, who is on the forefront of creating a Digital Public Library of America, which would give free access to the entire world. Dr. Stephens filmed the interviews and posted them on his blog, The Historical Society.
