Professor Lowell H. Hall (’59), Department of Chemistry, recently was the keynote speaker at the Southeast Regional Meeting of The American Chemical Society in Richmond, VA. The special session was honored his long time research partner, Dr. Lemont B. Kier (Virginia Commonwealth University), on his eightieth birthday. Dr. Hall’s presentation was entitled Creative Contributions to Molecular Structure Representations by Lemont B. Kier. Several other long time friends of Kier also participated.

This past summer Professor Hall and his son L. Mark Hall (‘93) were selected to participate in the Computer-Aided Drug Design Conference in the Frontiers of Science series sponsored by the Gordon Research Conferences (Kingston, RI). The conference, held at the Mount Snow Resort (West Dover, VT), included poster presentations by Hall (Rapid, Automated Prediction of Protonation Site in Nitrogenous Compounds from LC-Mass Spec Liquid Chromatography Effluent into Electrospray CID TOF Mass Spec: Protonated Molecules in Vacuum State) and by Mark Hall (Dispersion Interference Values: A New Descriptor System Encoding the Dispersion Potential of Molecular Subgraphs). The conference included 195 participants from industry, academia, and government from around the world. This was the 19th consecutive GRC conference in which Dr. Hall has made a presentation.
